Lara Re-Roofing Project features Z600 Galvanised Iron

August 4, 2022

True Blue Roofing have just completed this re-roofing project in Lara, Victoria.  Lara is positioned in the Geelong region, which is part of the larger Bellarine Peninsula area.

Roof replacement is a significant home improvement project that involves removing an old or damaged roof and installing a new one. It’s essential for maintaining the structural integrity of your home, improving energy efficiency, and protecting your property from the elements. This roof replacement involved us removing the original iron roof and replacing with Z600 Galvanised Iron.

We were able to supply and install:

  • Z600 Galvanised Corrugated Iron
  • Z600 Galvanised Ridge / Valley / Apron / Custom Chimney Flashing
  • Guardrails
  • Removal of old iron from site
  • 55mm roof blanket was installed during the roof replacement process

Galvanized iron is iron or steel that has been coated with a layer of zinc to protect it from corrosion. The galvanization process typically involves immersing the metal in molten zinc, which creates a strong, rust-resistant layer on the surface. This increases the material’s durability and lifespan, especially in outdoor or harsh environments.

The “Z600” refers to the specific amount of zinc coating applied to the surface of the steel. Z600 means that the metal has been coated with 600 grams of zinc per square meter (g/m²) of steel, which is a relatively high level of zinc protection. This coating provides excellent resistance to corrosion, making the material suitable for areas that are exposed to moisture or harsher environmental conditions.

Key Benefits of Galvanised Iron Z600:

Corrosion Resistance: The high level of zinc coating (Z600) ensures that the material resists rust and corrosion, making it ideal for long-lasting applications in damp or exposed environments.

Durability: The material has a long service life due to the strong protective layer that prevents degradation from elements like rain, humidity, and salt air.

Aesthetic Appeal: The galvanization process gives the iron a distinctive metallic finish that can be desirable for aesthetic purposes in certain architectural designs.

Low Maintenance: Products made from Z600 galvanised iron require minimal upkeep due to the durability of the zinc coating.

This material is commonly used in roofing, exterior cladding, rainwater goods (like gutters), and fencing, particularly in environments with higher corrosion risks. It is often chosen for both functional and aesthetic purposes, offering a traditional yet durable look while being highly resistant to the elements.
